Special issue History of Psychology

Hans Pols and Harry Yi-Jui Wu (both H-Madness section editors) have edited a spacial issue for the journal History of Psychology: Psychology and psychiatry in the global world: Historical perspectives. History of Psychology, 22(3). The special issue is divided into two parts. The first part appears in August 2019, and the second one will be published in October 2019.

The special issue attempts to critique and consolidate existing historiography of psychiatry and psychology in the global world. Seven authors examine the development of psychology and psychiatry outside Europe and North America, re-examining what “global” and “globalization” mean in colonial or postcolonial context. They have redrawn a more complex world map on which psy sciences have been invented, translated, adapted and appropriated in specific spatial conditions, transnational professional networks and micro-histories of less noticed regions.
