On Wednesday 21 October 2020 (2:00-3:30 PM EST) there will be another online Richardson Seminar: “Some remarks on psychiatry and its discontents”, by Andrew Scull.
“Sociologist and historian Andrew Scull will speak about aspects of his latest book, Psychiatry and Its Discontents (University of California Press, 2019). Scull’s clear, incisive writing has been a hallmark of his academic career, and this book is in many ways a culmination of a lifetime of thinking and writing about mental illness. In a series of essays, he examines the complexities of psychiatry’s past and the uncertainties of its present. The legitimacy of the psychiatric enterprise, he iterates, has almost always been under siege. Where does psychiatry stand at the end of the second decade of the new millennium?”
