Social Media Editor for History of Psychiatry

Social Media Editor

History of Psychiatry is accepting applications for a Social Media Editor. The successful applicant will help develop a social media strategy for the journal and be responsible for building and managing its overall social media profile.

History of Psychiatry is a fully peer reviewed hybrid journal with an eclectic readership. It endorses a broad, ‘big-tent’ historiographic agenda in support of interdisciplinary dialogue between historians, psychiatric practitioners, and other research communities. The journal publishes historical research on the history of psychiatry as a medical specialty. It also serves as a wider platform for intersectional research on the history of madness, including the cultural, socio-economic, and political manifestations of mental distress, as well as its lived experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with and advising Editors, Advisory Board Members, and authors to further develop and promote the journal on social networks
  • Generally building, managing, and monitoring the journal’s social media accounts
  • Regularly posting content that facilitates engagement and builds readership
  • Identifying new platforms and developing new strategies for expanding the journal’s social media presence
  • Collaborating with the publisher’s marketing team in the design and execution of social media campaigns
  • Devoting between three and four hours per week to these responsibilities

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in social media management or content creation
  • Familiarity with current research and debates in the history of psychiatry, as well familiarity with social networks and listservs/forums in the field
  • Awareness of the limitations and risks associated with social media
  • Multilingual communication skills
  • Familiarity with Bluesky

The journal especially encourages applications from graduate or post-graduate students and early-career faculty. This is a voluntary position.

Applicants are encouraged to familiarize themselves with Sage’s recommendations with regard to online platforms.

How to Apply: Applicants should submit a current CV and cover letter outlining their interest and qualifications – including examples of previous social media work — to the Journal’s Editor in Chief
Eric J Engstrom (engstroe@geschichte.hu-berlin.de).

Application Deadline: 30th September 2026
